  • ☼ Background☼

Cassandra's life changed completely when her family left their hold in Scagnar to come south. They heard not her oppositions or cries. She had no choice but to make peace with the idea that she will now have to leave the life of a young stubborn Northerner, of good family, to appeal the southern refined and decorous Free Women of Turia.

Settling came smooth, adhering was as easy as trick, there were many Northerners in the City, her father came to be a famous Builder in only a few years. Her mother had made of her name a prosperous merchant.

Cassandra met Alexandrius, first son of then Ubar Maximilianus Forstander, most powerful family, it was love at first sight and an immediate Companionship. The happiest she had ever been and he accepted her for who she was and wanted no more of her but to be that fierce Northern woman. Outspoken and down to earth.

After years of concurrent miscarriages and stillbirths, upon finally having their first healthy child, she uncovers the darkness underneath the surface, her Companion’s dark secrets and scheming intentions. He had become the Chief Cryptographer to the City and instrumental to its victory as Turia broke in war with the Wagons. But he was determined to sacrifice anything and shed innocent blood if it meant victory to the City. Alexandrius' loyalty towards his father superseded all else.

What was to blame, he had grown up with only his brothers, all sisters were sent away to other Cities for safety during the war. The spoiled son, envious of his sister Victoria who in spite of not being present, still caught the attention of their father most.

Cassandra had to consider the wellbeing of her child against the ambitions of her Companion, his obsession with deciphering any and all possible keys to undermining Kamchak's army. The cold nights grew longer, the days heavier, she feared he had become a whole other person, perhaps insane.

She decided to return to Scagnar, her parents did not oppose to faking her death, not even her sisters in law who helped. It was the perfect plan. And with a heart torn into a million pieces she left to her roots.

30 years later, word reached that Turia had won the war and Alexandrius was still investigating her death. Her son was now Chieftain of the Isle and old enough to care for himself.

Renouncing to her fears and suspicions was incomparable to what she longed for centuries.  Cassandra decided to come back to Turia after the only man she had ever Companioned and loved. To see what had become of him, and what would become of them. It may be a terrible idea. Only time would tell.
